Description

The Masons Falls Circuit in Kinglake National Park offers a picturesque journey through eucalyptus forests, ferns, and gullies, offering a rich sensory experience for nature enthusiasts.  Starting off at the key highlight Masons Falls, the trail leads to Arthur Creek before ascending Mount Sugarloaf via a steep climb, where hikers can enjoy a rewarding lunch break at the summit.

Location: Kinglake State Park

Length: 14km

Duration: 4.5hr

Elevation Gain: 435m

Hiking Grade: Grade 3 Moderate

This hike is perfect for Intermediate level, and it is balanced between easy and tranquil section along the creek to a challenging climbing section to the mount to finish on a flat path back to the start.

What to Bring

Pack a comfortable day backpack with 2L of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for sun protection. Wear sturdy trainers with good grip or, ideally, waterproof hiking boots and bring a waterproof jacket for unexpected rain or wind. Also consider using hiking poles to support your knees on descents and maintain balance, and gaiters for extra protection against snakes and rain (though they are optional).
