This hike is a favourite among visitors, showcasing the best of the Dandenong Ranges as it loops around the charming town of Olinda. Highlights include the Observatory, the Arboretum, and Olinda Falls, with a stop at the iconic Burkes Lookout offering one of Melbourne’s most breathtaking views. The trail is rewarding, featuring well-shaded forest paths and steep climbs, particularly near the end. Along the way, you’re likely to encounter native wildlife, including lyrebirds, parrots, and kookaburras.

What to Bring

Pack a comfortable day backpack with 2L of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for sun protection. Wear sturdy trainers with good grip or, ideally, waterproof hiking boots and bring a waterproof jacket for unexpected rain or wind.
