The Doongalla Forest to Kalorama area in the Dandenong Ranges is a lush and tranquil landscape characterised by towering Mountain Ash trees, vibrant tree ferns, and a rich understory of native shrubs. This serene forest, located on the western slopes of Mount Dandenong, offers hikers stunning views of Melbourne and the bay, weaving through dense bushland alive with birdlife and the refreshing scent of eucalyptus, making it a perfect escape into nature.

What to Bring

Pack a comfortable day backpack with 2L of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for sun protection. Wear sturdy trainers with good grip or, ideally, waterproof hiking boots and bring a waterproof jacket for unexpected rain or wind. Also consider using hiking poles to support your knees on descents and maintain balance, and gaiters for extra protection against snakes and rain (though they are optional). Swim suit & towel (summer months).
